This is the follow-up to Pegasus' 1/72 Waffen SS Set 1 1/72 German Waffen SS Lash and depicts members of this elite unit during the 1943 Battle of Kursk. You get 43 figures, mostly riflemen, in 20 different poses. Pegasus made improvements over Set 1: this set includes textured bases (Only one of the poses in Set 1 was given a base) and the error in the smocks was fixed. (The smocks in Set 1 were sculpted as if they were like a coat, with the placket opening going all the way down the smock)
All the soldiers are wearing the standard Stahlhelm with camouflage cover, while the officer using a radio wears the Schirmmutze dress cap. They all also appear to be wearing camouflage smocks, jackboots, and have the proper Y-straps and pouches for their weapons. The weapons include the MP40, the Kar98k, stick grenades, land mines, demolition charges?, rifle grenades, and a drum-fed MG34. Sculpting for all of this is excellent, and there was no flash.
The product's page mentions a modelling kit, and indeed it is. All but one of the pieces (the casualty) will require attachment to a seperate base (which is nice if you want to use them without the bases) and most of them will have seperate arms, heads, and entrenching tools. These SS sets are made of a very soft grey plastic, so you may also need a specialized glue to get the pieces to stay together. And of course, all will require painting, if you wish to do so.
I really enjoyed this kit, although the assembly took some time. The poses are quite nice, most being standard infantry advancing by fire and movement, but there are some rather unique ones like the sniper with camouflage, the rifle grenadiers, and the casualty, who actually has a visible chest wound. The only real bad part of this kit is all the seperate parts, but on the other hand that is what makes it good since the figures look a lot better because of it.
5/5 for Fun, I personally enjoyed painting them and using them in wargames. The assembly will probably subtract points from this category for some.
5/5 for Educational Value, it is historically accurate.
2/5 for Durability, these are models, not toys, and should be treated as such. With the right glue the bonds will be pretty strong though. The plastic itself is rather durable and wont snap like on most other 1/72 figures, though.
5/5 Overall, a very nice set for those interested in the Battle of Kursk/the LAH/or just WW II in general. They will also provide worthy adversaries for 1/72 WWII RUSSIAN INFANTRY or 1/72 RUSSIAN WWII INFANTRY
